AGV K6 S vs HJC RPHA 12: which should you buy?

The AGV K6 S is the better-documented helmet, the HJC RPHA 12 the better deal at a Canadian store. SHARP, the UK government's helmet-rating scheme, gave the AGV K6 S five stars and has not rated the HJC RPHA 12. AGV states a weight of 1,255 g; HJC's pages give none. On price the two are level on the Canadian median (CA$800 against CA$779) but the cheapest Canadian store for the RPHA 12 (CA$649.95) undercuts the usual K6 S price (CA$799.99). This guide compares the two on manufacturer specs, SHARP, sizing, warranty and landed CA$ prices from Canadian, US and EU stores as of 2026-10-21, and links the ALLR compare page for live per-store prices.

AGV also claims the K6 S beats ECE 22.06 requirements by 36% in linear and 65% in oblique impacts, which is the maker's own figure from homologation testing (AGV technical sheet); SHARP's five stars are the independent check. HJC has no independent rating to point to for the RPHA 12, and its shell, ventilation and cheek-pad features are manufacturer descriptions. That does not make it unsafe: HJC's i71 and C10 earned four SHARP stars. It means the evidence is thinner. See our AGV vs HJC guide for the full range and our certifications guide for reading the label.

Sizing: they share S and M, then diverge

Both chart S at 55 to 56 cm and M at 57 to 58 cm. After that HJC runs about a centimetre smaller: HJC L is 58 to 59 cm and XL 60 to 61 cm, while AGV L is 59 to 60 cm and XL 61 to 62 cm (HJC size chart, AGV size guide). A 60 cm head is an AGV L and an HJC XL. In stock, the K6 S was listed in all six sizes XS to XL at seven of nine Canadian stores with verified sizes, and in 2XL at five; the RPHA 12 was listed in S at only three of seven Canadian stores (counts are a lower bound because some stores label sizes differently). If you are a small or medium head, check stock before you fall for the RPHA 12 price.

The lowest prices tell different stories in each region. In the US the RPHA 12 is US$300 (13% below the K6 S), in the UK the K6 S is cheaper (£255 against £295) and in the EU they are within 2%. In Canada the K6 S shows a lower figure (CA$364), but that is a 2XL Reeval clearance colourway listed by Revco and Royal Distributing; Revco's own feed prices that colourway at CA$363.88 in 2XL and CA$573.99 in S to XL, and its plain Black K6 S at CA$789.99, across 37 variants. Use the median: CA$800 for the K6 S and CA$779 for the RPHA 12 across 25 and 23 in-stock listings. For the RPHA 12 the CA$564 lowest is a US store (SportbikeTrackGear) landed to Canada: CA$422.99 for the helmet, CA$73.57 shipping, CA$42.21 duty and CA$25 brokerage, so CA$140.78 (25% of the total) is landed cost on top of the item price. That listing showed only the 2XL in stock, so for most heads the next US option is Dennis Kirk at CA$779.19.

Seven Canadian stores carried the RPHA 12 (FortNine and Ottawa Goodtime Centre at CA$649.95, ADM Sport, MotoHut and RidingGear.ca at CA$679.95, GPbikes and Rider's Choice at CA$799.95), and ten carried the K6 S, seven of them at CA$799.99. For a plain-colour RPHA 12 bought at a Canadian store you pay about CA$150 less than for a K6 S at the same stores. The US-store route saves another CA$86 on the RPHA 12 only if you take that 2XL; for the K6 S the cheapest US store (J&P Cycles, CA$819) is dearer than the usual Canadian price. Buying overseas has a warranty cost: the AGV and HJC pages we read do not say whether they honour overseas purchases, so ask each before relying on it. The method is in landed cost explained.

Common questions

Is the AGV K6 S better than the HJC RPHA 12?

On evidence, the K6 S: SHARP rated it five stars and AGV publishes a 1,255 g weight, while SHARP has not rated the RPHA 12 and HJC's pages give no weight. The RPHA 12 counters with a longer stated warranty and a lower Canadian-store price (CA$649.95 against CA$799.99 at most stores).

Which is cheaper in Canada, the K6 S or the RPHA 12?

At Canadian stores the RPHA 12 is cheaper: seven stores listed it from CA$649.95, while seven of ten K6 S stores listed CA$799.99. Across all in-stock listings the medians are within 3% (CA$779 for the RPHA 12, CA$800 for the K6 S). The CA$364 K6 S lowest is a clearance 2XL.

Is the HJC RPHA 12 ECE 22.06 certified?

HJC Europe's RPHA 12 page says it meets or exceeds ECE 22.06, while HJC America's page lists DOT FMVSS 218 only. Which approval your helmet has depends on the market it was made for, so check the label sewn to the chin strap.

Do the K6 S and RPHA 12 fit the same head shape?

The makers do not say: neither AGV's nor HJC's pages state a head-shape designation. Fit is by try-on; the sizes also differ from L upward, because HJC L covers 58 to 59 cm and AGV L 59 to 60 cm. Our head shape guide covers how to test.

Is the K6 S worth the extra over a cheaper helmet?

SHARP gave the AGV K1 S, median CA$320 across Canadian-shipping listings, the same five stars as the K6 S, so the stars alone do not justify the premium. The K6 S adds a carbon-aramid shell and lower weight. See our do expensive helmets protect better? guide.
