Shoei Neotec 3 vs Schuberth C5: flip-up helmets compared

The Shoei Neotec 3 has the better independent rating and the C5 has the lower price. SHARP, the UK government's helmet-rating scheme, gave the Shoei Neotec 3 five stars and the Schuberth C5 four. In Canada the C5 is the cheaper flip-up at the stores that stock the standard model (CA$1,034 to CA$1,100 against CA$1,224 to CA$1,390 for the Neotec 3), and from a Dutch retailer the C5 lands at CA$760. This guide compares weight, approvals, intercom options, warranty and landed CA$ prices as of 2026-10-21, and links the ALLR compare page for live per-store prices.

Specs side by side

Shoei Neotec 3 page (Helmet House USA), Schuberth C5 datasheet and manuals, and SHARP, read 2026-10-21. SHARP weights and RRPs are for the UK-market models.

The weights are not directly comparable: Shoei's figure is from its US page, Schuberth's is the DOT datasheet at three mid sizes (55, 57 and 59), and SHARP weighed the UK models (1.7 kg and 1.6 kg). On every one of those sources the C5 is the lighter helmet by about 90 to 100 g. SHARP's pages for both flip-ups show no separate score for the chin-bar latch, so the star totals are the only independent comparison. More on how flip-ups differ from full-face helmets is in our modular vs full-face guide, and approvals in the certifications guide.

Price: what each costs in Canada

In-stock listings that ship to Canada, landed in CA$ (item + shipping + duty + brokerage, tax excluded). Standard C5 only; C5 Carbon listings are in the next paragraph. ALLR data, 2026-10-21.

Eight Canadian stores stocked the Neotec 3 (Revco, Ottawa Goodtime Centre, FortNine, TripleClamp Moto, Royal Distributing, GPbikes, MotoHut and ADM Sport) and none was below CA$1,224. The standard C5 was at three: Ottawa Goodtime Centre, FortNine and ADM Sport. GPbikes, MotoHut and RidingGear.ca list the C5 Carbon, a different helmet, at CA$1,749 to CA$1,750, and the US stores that ship to Canada (RevZilla, Cycle Gear, J&P Cycles) list it at US$1,549, which lands at CA$2,407 to CA$2,448. That is why ALLR's C5 page shows a wider range than the standard helmet costs. ALLR records a US list price of US$949.99 for the Neotec 3.

Overseas, the Dutch Champion Helmets C5 price breaks down as CA$634.30 for the helmet, CA$42.96 shipping, CA$57.57 duty and CA$25 brokerage, for CA$759.84 in total: CA$125 of landed cost on top of the item price. The Motostorm Neotec 3 lands the same way at CA$1,026.53. Both save about CA$200 to CA$340 against the Canadian typical price. The catch is the warranty: Shoei does not honour its warranty on helmets bought outside the buyer's own country, so the Neotec 3 saving is paid for with that. Our Canada buying guide covers the trade-off, and the Europe to Canada guide covers duty.

Intercom and accessories

The Schuberth SC2 is the C5's own plug-and-play unit. Schuberth SC2 listings landed from CA$365 (Motostorm) to CA$445 at four Canadian stores (GPbikes, MotoHut, RidingGear.ca and ADM Sport). The Neotec 3 takes Shoei's Sena SRL3 system; ALLR found only overseas listings, from CA$540 at Motostorm, and none at a Canadian store. If an intercom matters, the C5 is cheaper and easier to buy in Canada. Our Cardo vs Sena guide covers third-party units.

If you are weighing an adventure flip-up instead, the Schuberth E2 landed from CA$839 overseas and CA$1,099 at FortNine; see the Neotec 3 vs E2 compare page.

Common questions

Is the Shoei Neotec 3 safer than the Schuberth C5?

On the one independent measure available, yes: SHARP rated the Neotec 3 five stars and the C5 four. Both were tested in early 2024. SHARP publishes no separate latch score for either, and a star difference is not a pass or fail; the C5 is still a four-star helmet.

Which is lighter, the Neotec 3 or the C5?

The C5 on every source we read: 1,790 g on Schuberth's DOT datasheet against 1,882 g on Shoei's US page, and 1.6 kg against 1.7 kg at SHARP. The gap is about 90 to 100 g.

Why does the C5 cost more on ALLR's page than at FortNine?

Because ALLR's C5 page also carries listings for the C5 Carbon, which sells for CA$1,749 or more. The standard C5 at FortNine is CA$1,099; the price range shown on the product page includes the Carbon.

Can I buy a European Neotec 3 and keep the Shoei warranty?

No. Shoei's warranty page says helmets bought in a country other than the buyer's residence are not covered, so an Italian or Spanish purchase has no Shoei warranty in Canada. Weigh that against the roughly CA$200 to CA$340 saving.

Is a flip-up helmet as safe as a full-face?

The star ratings here (five and four) are for these two models only and say nothing about flip-ups in general; a hinged chin bar is a mechanism a full-face helmet does not have. Our modular vs full-face guide covers the differences.

Prices are a dated snapshot (ALLR data, 2026-10-21); the method is on the methodology page. Brand pages are at Shoei and Schuberth.
